Peltolan Premium Blue Cheese

Peltolan Premium Blue Cheese

Previously shrink wrapped and labeled with a barcode sticker, Peltolan was a product with no brand identity in need of some help. That was nothing short of an opportunity for us to create something extraordinary from scratch. While this blue cheese had plenty of value within its quality, the new packaging and brand design built an identity for the product and positioned it as Premium Finnish Blue Cheese. The ''Slice of Finnish Nature'' was a narrative taken literally and transferred to the stackable structure that forms a birch tree – an approach which offers impressive merchandising opportunities, instantly differentiating the brand. The front of the packaging communicates natural refined wood which suggests the refinement of the cheese making process. Within the natural wood grains there are hidden illustrations details, which once discovered add to the story that consumers embrace by inviting this product to their homes. The holistic joined-up approach to product development has produced an unique premium tactile packaging experience.

Baronía Packaging and Brand Design

As one of the largest producers of pasta in the world, Baronia needs no introduction. On the same token, the market size of this signature Italian classic product is overwhelming. Hence, repositioning the iconic “Heros” product-concept of the company, which was no humble task.

Patakukkonen Packaging and Brand Design

Patakukkonen Packaging and Brand Design

Patakukkonen is a Finnish traditional oven baked kukko (pie) made from regional ingredients. Based on a young boyʼs memory of his grandmotherʼs cooking, the brief was to develop an unique and modern brand based on traditional values, exploring classic Finnish foods. For PACKLAB, an inspiring creative opportunity came from working around the challenge presented by the diverse environments where the product would be showcased. From small cafes to major retailers, the packaging had to work equally in low counter refrigerators, high-standing door refrigerators of convenience stores, and even promotion refrigerators found in upscale food courts and airport food stores. We thus aimed at resolving whether a single packaging solution could work optimally in each retail environment, yet still be relevant and differentiating. Balancing information, imagery and space, the final design can be merchandised in five different ways, while optimising shelf space and accentuating the new distinct identity of the brand.

Bragazzis Brand and Packaging Design

Bragazzis Brand and Packaging Design

Bragazzis is a fine Italian food retailer in the North of England, that has been in the industry for three family generations. Despite of the long company history, Bragazzis as a brand was lacking identity. In light of the retailerʼs ambitions to expand its market presence to the south of the UK, PACKLAB was asked to design a visual identity that could compete with other premium fine food retailers on-line. We incorporated direct product symbolism within a modern minimalistic design, that works jointly to deliver distinct shelf presence for the range of brand name products. The new identity boldly communicates the purity and premium quality of the products, while positioning Bragazzis as an upscale brand with maturity and vision.

Kanniston Gingerbread NPD

Kanniston Gingerbread NPD

Kanniston Leipomo (Bakery) asked PACKLAB to redefine the all-familiar Scandinavian premium gingerbread for Christmas. The task was simple – to design packaging for the best Gingerbread cookies in Finland. To start, we looked into the stakeholders behavior within the bakery, distribution chain, retail environments and explored Scandinavian seasonal home experiences. These observations lead to the idea of bringing together an old Scandinavian tradition and the warm spirit of the holiday. While the tale goes that when the cookie brakes evenly in three pieces, good luck is brought to the holder, it only made sense that the pieces would be heart-shaped, communicating the affectionate characteristic of the season. Five different, yet similar variants of packaging communicated the narrative, rendered in an unique consumption experience. The structural packaging design, achieved as a result of integral product and packaging development, enabled easy packing at the bakery, protection for the product and an unique functional opening system for the end users, all the while elevating the product to a premium category with minimal use of material.

Al Rawabi Structural Design

Al Rawabi Structural Design

Al Rawabi is the leading producer of milk products in Dubai. What makes the company different from the rest in the region are the five hundred cows flown from Holland, peacefully resting in a temperature controlled dairy in the middle of the desert. Standing by itʼs corporate philosophy ''Pure Fresh Quality Everyday'', Al Rawabi's ambition was to introduce an innovative milk bottle range to the competitive Middle East market. We started off with comprehensive research of the local market and stakeholdersʼ opinions, and conveyed the companyʼs value proposition within a clear and straightforward USP: ''Our cows are closer, our milk is fresher''. We approached the design process with the objective to create an iconic structural packaging with characteristics so distinctive that they would be manifested through peopleʼs behaviour. The result of our work was packaging that delivered rich touch-points, facilitating a novel tactile user experience. The range of bottles provided valuable qualitative differentiation for the company within a saturated and mature marketscape.
